SOME DON'TS

* Don't hope to get the best birds at cheapest prices.

* Don't buy a bird because it is cheap, unless it is the bird you want.

* Don't be afraid to pay the price for a good bird, it will be worth the cost of 10 lesser ones in the long run.

* Don't start off with too many birds or too many different breeds.

* Don't buy unhealthy birds.

* Don't just empty the drinkers and fill them again, clean them with a brush.

* Don't be afraid to let in plenty of fresh air, without causing draughts.

* Don't leave a sick bird among healthy ones.

* Don't mix bought birds with your own until a quarantine period has passed.

* Don't be in a hurry to get young birds onto hard seed, continue to give soft food until they are through the moult.

* Don't forget birds to be colour fed must be started on colour food before the moult.

* Don't forget to ask when buying a bird how it was bred and fed. To know how it was bred is important for your record book, and how it was fed so it will adapt to your procedures faster.
