* Don't start off with too many birds or too many different breeds.
* Don't buy unhealthy birds.
* Don't just empty the drinkers and fill them again, clean them with a brush.
* Don't be afraid to let in plenty of fresh air, without causing draughts.

* Don't mix bought birds with your own until a quarantine period has passed.
